Julia Islas is a doctoral student in political science at the Université de Montréal. Her research focuses on the impact of urban agriculture projects on public space in Mexico City. She is specifically interested in the role of urban agriculture in the processes of reconfiguration of women's urban experiences. In 2020, she graduated from Sorbonne University with a degree in Sociology. In 2022, she obtained her master's degree in social sciences, cooperation and development in Latin America (sociology specialization - research path) at the Institut des Hautes Études sur l'Amérique latine (IHEAL - Paris III Sorbonne Nouvelle). Her thesis is entitled "Pratiques éco-féministes en contexte urbain : émancipation des femmes et nouvelles urbanités par le biais des projets d’agriculture urbaine à Mexico" under the supervision of Professor David Dumoulin.
